Need a Multi To external hard drive to store course videos

Hello everyone. I like Youtube. I use it to watch lectures and instructional videos on topics related to software engineering and computer science. This is my university. I am a lifelong learner. I have a YouTube account and I save lecture playlists to my Youtube library. It helps me organize all my learning materials.

I am traveling to another country where Youtube is restricted. I want to stay on top of my learning schedule while I’m at it. I want to download all my Youtube videos and playlists to external hard drive for two reasons. The first reason is that I want to be able to watch these videos while I am in this foreign country. The second reason is that I want to have a backup of these videos, in order to save internet bandwidth and just to satisfy my own data hoarding habits.

I am looking for a multiTB external hard drive to store all these videos. There are many. Hundreds of playlists, each containing tens to hundreds of videos each. And the videos last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. Don’t ask me how I plan to find the time to watch them all. I probably won’t have time to look at them all, but I still want to save them for the future.

What size external hard drive should I buy? What size should be to store all my recorded videos? My other criteria are as follows: it must have fast access time so that I can plug it into my laptop and watch the videos directly from the external hard drive, instead of transferring the videos to my laptop first and watch them only after that. It should also have a standard USB connection, not SATA or something like that. I also don’t want it to have “smart” capability, I mean it shouldn’t come with extra nonessential drivers, GUI apps, or daemons. It should also not have the ability to connect to the Internet wirelessly. In short, it should be like a USB drive capable of holding a huge amount of storage. It also should not die in a few years, this is intended for long term storage, like several decades.

I don’t know what are the good models of external hard drives in the market. And I also don’t know how much space is needed to store such a large collection of Youtube videos. For example several hundred playlists * on average 30 videos per playlist * each video lasts about 30 minutes. Would anyone be willing to recommend me an external hard drive to suit my needs?

Almost all letters of the alphabet have playlists starting with it. The letter “D” has two more rows below it.
